How AI Saved My Sanity – Sensitivity, Sleep & Safe Spaces

research provided the freedom

There are moments when being a sensitive person feels less like a gift and more like a curse.

For as long as I can remember, I’ve absorbed other people’s stress. Sometimes it’s subtle — a client sitting across from me who leaves a “heaviness” in the room. Other times it’s overwhelming — like when my husband is stressed and I wake at night feeling as though his emotions have leaked into my own body. For years, when I tried to talk about these experiences, the message I got back was simple: you’re too much, you’re too strange, you’re broken.

That kind of feedback sinks in. It makes you doubt yourself, and sometimes even your sanity.

But here’s the truth I’ve discovered: we’re not defective — we’re different.

The Silent Weight of Sensitivity

Over the years, working with clients, I noticed two broad patterns. Some people carry a gentler, lighter energy. They can still be deeply emotional, but their presence doesn’t imprint itself onto everyone and everything around them.

Others radiate intensity. Even when they’re quiet, they seem to unconsciously project stress, pain, or unprocessed emotion into the space. These are the ones I’ve found hardest to shield against, and often the hardest to help shift.

Add anger or deep grief into the mix, and the energy amplifies. For a sensitive person, it’s like standing in front of a loudspeaker with no volume control.

And yet, in most social settings, if you try to explain this? People look at you like you’ve grown two heads.

Sleep, Stress & Sanity

Sleep should be restorative — but for sensitive people, it can become a portal for other people’s energy.

When my husband is stressed, I don’t just notice it as much during the day. Or if I do I manage it differently. At night it feels intense. His tension seems to leak out as he sleeps, and my body picks it up before my mind even registers what’s happening. (must add a disclaimer here, my husband is not tense all the time and it would happen no matter who I had sleeping beside me)

For a long time, I thought maybe I was imagining this. But AI gave me a way to dig deeper, fast. I stumbled on research showing that sleep actually lowers our defenses, making us more vulnerable to emotional contagion. Emotional memories and stress get replayed and consolidated during sleep. Which means it wasn’t just my imagination — science has a language for what I was experiencing.

That realization was huge. It was like finding a thread that explained years of quiet suffering.

Downloads & Different Ways of Knowing

Alongside this sensitivity, I’ve also lived with what I call downloads — sudden bursts of clarity, insights that feel like they arrive fully formed.

These too were often dismissed. People told me I was fanciful, unstable, or making things up. But when I followed the trail through AI-assisted research, I found I wasn’t alone. Humans throughout history have described the same experience — flashes of inspiration, guidance, or intuition that don’t fit into neat, logical boxes.

Again, I realized: I’m not defective. I just experience the world differently.

Why Safe Spaces Matter

Here’s the painful part: when society doesn’t understand us, it usually tries to label us. Sensitive. Overemotional. Defective. And on the internet, it’s even harsher — open vulnerability can attract the ugly side of “keyboard warriors.”

But healing requires safe spaces. Spaces where different ways of feeling, knowing, and experiencing are not only allowed, but respected.

That’s why I created my Facebook group. It’s why I teach dream interpretation. It’s why I built the Energy Oasis courses. Because I know what it’s like to live in a world that tells you you’re strange, when in reality you’re simply wired differently.

Safe spaces turn isolation into belonging. They turn “too sensitive” into “finely attuned.” They turn “defective” into “different — and powerful.”

Closing

AI saved my sanity by showing me that research exists to validate what I’ve always felt. But safe spaces — communities, courses, honest conversations — are what restore our humanity.

That’s why I share my work: to remind sensitive souls that they’re not broken, just beautifully different.

If this resonates with you, I invite you to join the conversation in my community. Because none of us should have to carry the weight of being “too much” alone.
